Wears The Love

"And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it."
- Colossians 3:14-17

Resolved, never to count that a prayer, nor to let that pass as a prayer, nor that as a petition of a prayer, which is so made, that I cannot hope that God will answer it; nor that as a confession, which I cannot hope God will accept.

Jonathan Edwards

Resolved, whenever my feelings begin to appear in the least out of order, when I am conscious of the least uneasiness within, or the least irregularity without, I will then subject myself to the strictest examination.

Jonathan Edwards

[F]ear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Isaiah 41:10 (ESV)

The Great Secret of Marriage

“The hard times of marriage drive us to experience more of this transforming love of God. But a good marriage will also be a a place where we experience more of this kind of transforming love at a human level. The gospel can fill our hearts with God’s love so that you can handle it when your spouse fails to love you as he or she should. That frees us to see our spouse’s sins and flaws to the bottom - and speak of them - and yet still love and accept our spouse fully. And when, by the power of the gospel, our spouse experiences the same kind of truthful yet committed love, it enables our spouses to show us that same kind of transforming love when the time comes for it.

This is the great secret! Through the gospel, we get both the power and the pattern for the journey of marriage.”

- The Meaning of Marriage: Facing the Complexities of Commitment with the Wisdom of God by Timothy and Kathy Keller

“To have a movie made about you for keeping your word is pretty awesome. To be able to write a book for the world to read about how God has worked in your life and your faith, to me, that is really a wonderful thing and a great opportunity. The world has tried to make me to be some sort of hero for being this guy who stuck by the girl and is remarkable and heroic and things like that - but the bottom line is that we look at people and tell people that we simply did what we said we were going to do. And for us, it’s kind of sad that we live in a world where we are getting all this attention for doing what we said we were going to do.” - Krickitt Carpenter (whose character is played by Channing Tatum in the movie, The Vow)

Their love story is so encouraging and so inspiring for me. Praise the Lord!

“Let a woman learn quietly with all submissiveness. I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet. For Adam was formed first, then Eve; and Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and became a transgressor. Yet she will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith and love and holiness, with self-control.”
- 1 Timothy 2:11-15 (ESV)

Pastor Norm Funk, of Westside Church in Vancouver, British Columbia, does a great job of explaining the different gender roles of men and women according to God’s purpose in this sermon based on 1 Timothy 2:11-15. I encourage you to have your Bibles right in front of you when you are listening to it. Be blessed, lovelies!

When dressing in love includes putting on the whole armor of God…

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication.

Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

Hebrews 10:19-25 (ESV)
